The world premiere of the ONSTAGE! gala, held last Saturday in the spectacularly decorated Roda Theatre, made for quite a memorable evening. San Francisco Chronicle "Social City" columnist Catherine Bigelow wrote a wonderful piece about the event in today's newspaper.
For those of you who weren't able to attend, Cheshire Isaacs, Berkeley Rep's art director, was there with his camera and provides the following glimpses of the festivities...
Meet the chefs: (back row from left) Artistic Director Tony Taccone, Mattea Soreng, Jennifer Sherman, Charlie Hallowell, Jean Pierre Moullé, (front row) Board President Marjorie Randolph, Managing Director Susan Medak, Samantha Greenwood, Charlene Reis, Mary Canales, ONSTAGE! Committee Chair and Board Member Felicia Woytak, and Director of Development Lynn Eve Komaromi.
Randy Laroche and David Laudon dressed to the nines for ONSTAGE!
Outside, the courtyard was filled with patrons sipping wine from Charles de Fère Cuvée Jean Louis, Five Vintners, and Spy Valley, tasting Fra' Mani salumi, enjoying St. George Spirits, and pondering the purchase of raffle tickets.
Upstairs in the Roda, revelers enjoyed Hog Island oysters.
Inside the Roda, Berkeley Rep's production crew had transformed the theatre into an elegant supper club of the highest order featuring floral accents provided by H. Julien Designs.
One of the highlights of the evening came during a video tribute to Managing Director Susan Medak (seen here watching the video with her husband, Greg Murphy) celebrating her 20th anniversary at Berkeley Rep.
Among the live auction bidders was Board Member Helen Meyer.
The salad featured grilled asparagus with baked Bellwether Farm ricotta and salsa rustica.
Diners enjoyed an entrée of braised Liberty Farm duck leg with fava beans and garden lettuces.
Winning bidders were presented with their auction items and a bottle of champagne attached to a bouquet of orange balloons.
Berkeley Rep's 2009-10 fellows, all of whom volunteered at the event, surround Berkeley Rep School of Theatre Director Rachel Fink. During the "raise the paddle" portion of the evening, donors contributed more than $55,500 in support of the fellowship program.
Thank you to all the attendees, winning bidders, raffle ticket buyers, and volunteers for making the debut of ONSTAGE! such a success.
